January’s Coffee of the Month – Medium Roast Guatemala and Light Roast

The Holiday Blend coffees are gone until November 2010….
Are you upset you won’t be able to get them? Don’t worry about it! This month is the chance for something different, yet unique and delicious. We’re bringing you a very special blend of Guatemala coffee for January that is sure to keep you wanting more.

Our “Coffee of the Month” is a wonderful Agros coffee. It’s my personal favorite actually. From the village of Trapichitos in Guatemala, comes this wonderfully rich, full flavored, original Guatemala coffee bean. We carry Guatemala all year but for the Month of January, we’re blending the light and medium roasts of this exquisite bean. The result is a mellow, yet medium/full bodied coffee with a slight citrus highlight.

Agros’ website gives us a little more insight:

Trapichitos
“Place of the Sugar Mills”
Nebaj, Quiché, Guatemala
Size: 635 acres
Population: 61 families
Founded: 2000

Also known as La Trinidad (the Trinity), Trapichitos is an Ixil community that has persevered through great challenges. Squeezed together for many years on just 25 acres of land, the original 85 families organized themselves to purchase land 25 minutes from their homes. After five frustrating years and many fruitless attempts to acquire land, the community approached Agros for assistance in April 2000. Agros had never worked with previously organized groups in the Ixil, thereby, presenting a new opportunity. With Agros’ support, local leaders finally had the financial backing to approach the landowner. The 635-acre tract of Trapichitos was purchased in November 2000

I hope you enjoy what is my personal favorite of our coffee beans!

CICR’s Last Blog Post of the Decade…

Well, the Holidays are upon us! It’s been a crazy (in a good way), busy year and we’ve be extremely blessed and fortunate. We’ve enjoyed a lot of success in spite of the current economy. The farmers that we support have been able to feel our success as well. Our loyal, prosumers have given us a lot to be thankful for and have blessed us beyond what we could have ever hoped for.

As the end of the year (or as the title suggests – decade) is upon us, we all wanted to give our most heartfelt “Thank You” to our customers. Without your constant support. Without your passion for the best coffee in the world. Without your support of ethical coffee –we’d not be here today.

We hope your Holidays have been and continue to be blessed and full of family and loved ones.

Happy Holidays!

Shipping Organic, Sustainable Coffee Globally!

When we chat with our coffee prosumers about various places that we ship our coffee to, we’re met with a lot of intrigue. While our Coffee Lover’s Club is currently only shipped to the United States, we ship larger quantities of coffee globally as well! Sure, we purchase coffee from different countries around the world, but we also SELL coffee to many countries as well.

Recently, we sent a shipment to Japan and thought it’d be fun to post a couple pictures for you to see. This order, while a little smaller than some, was a fun one to fulfill at 3000lbs. Strictly Seattle, KK in Japan has been purchasing coffee from us for years. They serve our espresso at their high end restaurants as well as their coffee shops throughout Japan. Japan is one of the many countries that we send our organic coffee to. You can also find our coffee in Honduras, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China, and Ecuador. Of course you can always find it here in the United States of America.

While we don’t ship smaller orders (Coffee Lover’s Club or retail) to countries other than the U.S., we are always looking for good distribution partners to help expand our reach. Through our global reach, we are able to sell more coffee to further our goals of helping these third world farmers. It’s one of our many methods of creating a sustainable business that also helps to create sustainability globally.

Camano Island Coffee Roasters – Finally… a coffee that helps you sleep at night!

November’s Coffee of the Month – Peru Light and Dark

11_november_harvest
It’s a busy time of year for us at Camano Island Coffee and I’m a few days late on this post (please forgive me!). November marks the first month of the availability of our Holiday Blend and Holiday Blend Midnight coffees. Of course, what is often lost in the shadow of those coffees is a great coffee that many don’t usually get a chance to try.

Our Peru coffee is described as:
“One of the highest in elevation in the region, this Peru bean has sweet, fruity tones that lend towards a naturally sweet cup. Our Peru is our lightest bodied coffee which makes it a great choice for the coffee drinker that enjoys drinking lots of coffee yet doesn’t want to sacrifice in the flavor of the cup. This coffee is great anytime of the day and compliments many meals.”
That description still holds true with this special blend of roasts. The only addition I would make to that description is the added amount of complexity from the combination of a Light Roast coffee and a Dark Roast coffee.

At CICR, we get so caught up in coffees that have a “strength” in flavor or provide the drinker with a “rich” cup of coffee, that the Peru often gets overlooked. Peru, while not having that super heavy flavor, has a wonderfully mellow tone. We always market it as our “guzzling” coffee but it’s also a wonderful compliment to food. When I’m eating a meal, I want my coffee to taste great, but not compete with what I’m enjoying. This Peru’s natural sweetness only goes to compliment the meal rather than combat it.

That’s it for this one! Thanks for reading and come grab a cup at the Roaster if you’re out here! We always have FREE cups of our fresh roasted organic coffee for you to try!

PS – Don’t forget, we still do have our Holiday Blends Available now!

Coffee Signage – It never gets old!

The Holidays are fast approaching and at CICR, we’re working hard to put the last finishing touches on our 2009 Holiday Gift Shop. Most of the things we accomplish in the last few days are a community approach at completing a project. The following sign is a combination of Cristy’s desire for a good sign, Jeff’s sense of humor, and Dan’s layout. We thought you’d enjoy seeing one this sign (it’s going up by the espresso machine). Just another fun post for you to enjoy!

Thanks for your Support!

Coffee that will make you move!

I read this article on Engadget and wanted to share it with our Coffee drinkers… it’s funny and a lot of fun to watch.

“A robot barista-filled future may still be a long ways off, but it looks like you may just be answering to a machine of another sort for your coffee sooner than you think — at least if Douwe Egberts has its way. While it’s still a concept, the company’s so-called BeMoved coffee machine promises to finally bring the disparate worlds of hot beverages and motion control together at last, and do nothing short of raise “human interaction with a coffee machine to a higher level” in the process. Because, really, you can never truly feel close to a coffee machine until it’s taunted you to jump up and down to fill your cup of joe. Of course, you can also do some slightly more practical things like tailor your coffee exactly the way you like using the massive touchscreen, and even check up on the weather and news while you wait. No word on any test markets just yet, but folks can apparently check out the concept first-hand at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven this week — or simply head on past the break for a video.”

Engadget is a great blog for the technology geeks out there. The section above in quotes was taken directly from them as a quote. I highly recommend reading their blog and I watch their posts daily.

Enjoy! Dan – CICR
