Shipping Organic, Sustainable Coffee Globally!

When we chat with our coffee prosumers about various places that we ship our coffee to, we’re met with a lot of intrigue. While our Coffee Lover’s Club is currently only shipped to the United States, we ship larger quantities of coffee globally as well! Sure, we purchase coffee from different countries around the world, but we also SELL coffee to many countries as well.

Recently, we sent a shipment to Japan and thought it’d be fun to post a couple pictures for you to see. This order, while a little smaller than some, was a fun one to fulfill at 3000lbs. Strictly Seattle, KK in Japan has been purchasing coffee from us for years. They serve our espresso at their high end restaurants as well as their coffee shops throughout Japan. Japan is one of the many countries that we send our organic coffee to. You can also find our coffee in Honduras, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China, and Ecuador. Of course you can always find it here in the United States of America.

While we don’t ship smaller orders (Coffee Lover’s Club or retail) to countries other than the U.S., we are always looking for good distribution partners to help expand our reach. Through our global reach, we are able to sell more coffee to further our goals of helping these third world farmers. It’s one of our many methods of creating a sustainable business that also helps to create sustainability globally.

Camano Island Coffee Roasters – Finally… a coffee that helps you sleep at night!

If there was ever a time to tell a friend or family member about CICR…

IT IS NOW!
CICR is running a special promotion with local radio station 820AM KGNW to offer the first month of a Coffee Lover’s Club membership at half price. We decided it would be a great time to pass this on to our current customers and social networking followers.

It’s important to note that there is a limited supply of these coupons available so you or your friend will need to act on them soon!

Also, as an extra bonus, for our current customers, we’re also adding our “refer-a-friend” bonus to this deal. They’ll get their first club for only $15.00 and you’ll get a free shipment for bringing them to us. After they sign up, either send us an email or call us at 866-387-JAVA (5282) and let us know. We’ll make sure you don’t have to pay for your next one.

November’s Coffee of the Month – Peru Light and Dark

11_november_harvest
It’s a busy time of year for us at Camano Island Coffee and I’m a few days late on this post (please forgive me!). November marks the first month of the availability of our Holiday Blend and Holiday Blend Midnight coffees. Of course, what is often lost in the shadow of those coffees is a great coffee that many don’t usually get a chance to try.

Our Peru coffee is described as:
“One of the highest in elevation in the region, this Peru bean has sweet, fruity tones that lend towards a naturally sweet cup. Our Peru is our lightest bodied coffee which makes it a great choice for the coffee drinker that enjoys drinking lots of coffee yet doesn’t want to sacrifice in the flavor of the cup. This coffee is great anytime of the day and compliments many meals.”
That description still holds true with this special blend of roasts. The only addition I would make to that description is the added amount of complexity from the combination of a Light Roast coffee and a Dark Roast coffee.

At CICR, we get so caught up in coffees that have a “strength” in flavor or provide the drinker with a “rich” cup of coffee, that the Peru often gets overlooked. Peru, while not having that super heavy flavor, has a wonderfully mellow tone. We always market it as our “guzzling” coffee but it’s also a wonderful compliment to food. When I’m eating a meal, I want my coffee to taste great, but not compete with what I’m enjoying. This Peru’s natural sweetness only goes to compliment the meal rather than combat it.

That’s it for this one! Thanks for reading and come grab a cup at the Roaster if you’re out here! We always have FREE cups of our fresh roasted organic coffee for you to try!

PS – Don’t forget, we still do have our Holiday Blends Available now!

Coffee Signage – It never gets old!

The Holidays are fast approaching and at CICR, we’re working hard to put the last finishing touches on our 2009 Holiday Gift Shop. Most of the things we accomplish in the last few days are a community approach at completing a project. The following sign is a combination of Cristy’s desire for a good sign, Jeff’s sense of humor, and Dan’s layout. We thought you’d enjoy seeing one this sign (it’s going up by the espresso machine). Just another fun post for you to enjoy!

Thanks for your Support!

Coffee that will make you move!

I read this article on Engadget and wanted to share it with our Coffee drinkers… it’s funny and a lot of fun to watch.

“A robot barista-filled future may still be a long ways off, but it looks like you may just be answering to a machine of another sort for your coffee sooner than you think — at least if Douwe Egberts has its way. While it’s still a concept, the company’s so-called BeMoved coffee machine promises to finally bring the disparate worlds of hot beverages and motion control together at last, and do nothing short of raise “human interaction with a coffee machine to a higher level” in the process. Because, really, you can never truly feel close to a coffee machine until it’s taunted you to jump up and down to fill your cup of joe. Of course, you can also do some slightly more practical things like tailor your coffee exactly the way you like using the massive touchscreen, and even check up on the weather and news while you wait. No word on any test markets just yet, but folks can apparently check out the concept first-hand at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven this week — or simply head on past the break for a video.”

Engadget is a great blog for the technology geeks out there. The section above in quotes was taken directly from them as a quote. I highly recommend reading their blog and I watch their posts daily.

Enjoy! Dan – CICR

Is it time to ReThink Your Organization’s Coffee Program?

ReThink Coffee – Sustainable Coffee Program for Organizations and Churches

We wanted to take this opportunity to announce our newest venture with Agros. ReThink coffee is a new way to look at your organization or church missions program. Instead of purchasing coffee that keeps people in a cycle of poverty and then giving money out to various missions, ReThink coffee offers a better way to do real missions work.

Many people do not understand that coffee is the second largest commodity in the world… next to oil. While we can’t make much of a difference with our oil purchases – we can all make a huge difference in our coffee purchases. If every coffee drinker were to be more responsible in their coffee purchases – poverty in many of the world’s rural areas would be overcome.

We use the term “The coffee that helps you sleep at night” because every time you purchase coffee… you know that you are helping third-world farmers on their path to sustainability. This work allows us to truly “Teach a man to fish” instead of “giving a man a fish”. When we help a family through loans and education to first own their own land this gives them the opportunity to have hope for their future and as a direct result of our support for the products they grow they now have life. When we give them a handout or a short-term fix, fear is created because they don’t know who to go to tomorrow.

As Americans, we must change our thinking from “is this the best price for coffee?” to “will this small amount of money be multiplied to create the most good in the lives of the people who earn it?”

For more information please go to www.agros.org and remember whenever you purchase your next package of coffee, make sure it is certified organic…shade grown…and fairly traded.

Thanks for coming along with us on this journey of responsible consumerism – and remember next time you are re-thinking your coffee selection…there is really a coffee that helps you sleep at night.

If you’re interested in getting coffee for your organization or you are looking for a new church coffee program, please visit ReThink Coffee’s website to buy ethical coffee.

Back and Speedier than ever!

If any of you visited our blog in the last few hours, you may have noticed things not looking quite right. Well, we’ve upgraded! Our old server wasn’t able to support the popularity of our blog (we have to say, we’ve been fairly overwhelmed at how many people are paying attention to it!). So if you’ve been to the blog and been frustrated with speed issues, try us again! Things should be moving along very… well, zip-pily!

We’ve also revamped our photos page with faster loading photos that pull directly from our Flickr account, done a bunch of bug fixes (including one that made it hard to respond on blog posts), and generally improved stability by removing things that didn’t add value to the blog.

Thanks to all who’ve been so loyal and supportive to force this upgrade. It’s great customers like you that keep us moving ahead!
